MTB route Graaf van Horne trail

Cycle path

Length: 93 kms. (Can be shortened to 70 or 50 kms) The Graaf van Horne Mountainbike trail is a 93 km long tour. It takes you past all the nature reserves in the Weerterland also known as het Land van Horne.

The cycle route starts in the nature reserve the IJzerenman and goes via the new nature reserve Het Blauwe meertje, along the Zuid Willemsvaart to the Laurabossen. When you leave the Laurabossen you pass the former refuse dump Delbroek. You continue along the Tungelroyse beek and cross the Kerke-brökske (bridge) to the nature reserve the Tungelerwallen. From the Tungelerwallen you reach the nature reserve De Krang via the crossing Maaseikerweg. We return to the Tungelerwallen along the Tungelroyse brook. Through the Tungelerwallen we go to the woods of Altweerterheide and then via the railway bridge over the Zuid Willemsvaart which divides ‘het Land van Horne’ in two. This brings us to the Weerterbergen nature reserve (owned by the Ministry of Defence), we cross over the A2 and enter the Weerterbos. This used to belomg to the municipality of Weert. But after the construction of the new part of the A2 this was transferred to the municipality of Nederweert. Via the Weerterbos we return to the starting point.

The route takes us over singletracks, sandy paths and country roads. In some places there is a connection with tarmac roads. The route is originally a hiking trail but based on this a mountain bike route has been mapped out. The route is technical in parts but is suitable for the experienced and less experienced mountain biker. The route can be started at any point.
