Cycling along flat roads in a beautiful natural landscape!

Central Limburg: ideal for bike rides or a cycling holiday

Anyone who thinks Limburg is all hills is wrong. You can cycle along plenty of flat roads in Central Limburg through very varied surroundings. One moment you can be cycling through breathtaking woods and the next you can be cycling through one of Limburg’s characteristic villages.

Cycling network of numbered intersections

Central Limburg has an extensive cycling network of numbered intersections, the fietsknooppuntennetwerk, stretching for some 1,000 kilometres. This simple signposted system gives cyclists an infinite number of possible routes. Little ferries take you across the river and many of the routes are for cyclists and pedestrians only. A unique feature of cycling in Central Limburg is that its network of numbered intersections links up with the German and Belgian networks. You can drink a Belgian beer and eat German ‘Kuchen’ all on the same afternoon.

All the numbered intersections in the cycling network for Central Limburg and North Limburg can also be found on the cycling network map (fietsknooppuntenkaart), available from one of the Tourist Information Offices (VVV) or in the online shop.

  • Cyclists welcome

If you see a Fietsers Welkom! sign outside a café, restaurant or hotel it means that their owners have qualified for this quality label and that they offer extra service to cyclists: cyclists are welcome, in other words! This quality label is renewed every year. The sign on the wall shows the year it was issued.
